Kombi: Table top

Chipboard core with melamine coating, white, smooth, matt.

With real beech wood edge band (2 mm thick). The edges are double treated with a water and acid resistant, food-safe finish for optimal protection against dirt and stains. They are rounded with a 2 mm radius of curvature.

Incidentally, our table tops offer superior quality on both sides. This means that you effectively get 2 tops in one: if the top side becomes marred after years of use, simply turn it over and you practically have a new table. You’ll love it, and so will the environment.

Stories of heights and depths
It all started with the brick; the archetype, if you will, of the height adjuster. In the 1950s and 60s, students at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) began to use it as a “quick fix” for height adjustment of their drawing boards. Placed under the table frame, the bricks conveniently raised the tables to their required height. Since Egon Eiermann had originally designed the frame for use as a drawing board measuring 660 mm in height, Adam Wieland extended the range later, in 1965 to be precise, to include fixed height adjusters, followed by these variable models. This made it possible to use the E2 as a desk with a height of 720 mm. Incidentally, Egon Eiermann himself never designed height adjusters for his table frame.
