In the 1950s and 60s, students at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) began to use it as a “quick fix” for height adjustment of their drawing boards. Placed under the table frame, the bricks conveniently raised the tables to their required height. Since Egon Eiermann had originally designed the frame for use as a drawing board measuring 660 mm in height, Adam Wieland extended the range later, in 1965 to be precise, to include fixed height adjusters, followed by these variable models. This made it possible to use the E2 as a desk with a height of 720 mm.
